How do I install a KickPort?
Installing a KickPort on your bass drum is a straightforward process. Here’s how to do it:
Tools Needed
KickPort (comes with a port hole template and trim ring)
A utility knife or drum hole cutter
Your bass drum's resonant head
Steps:
Prepare the Resonant Head:
Remove the resonant (front) head from the bass drum. This is the side facing the audience during a performance.
Mark the Port Hole:
Place the included port hole template on the resonant head. Position it off-center (typically near the bottom right or left side of the drum head) to avoid interfering with the sound and structure of the drum.
Use the template to trace the circle where the hole will be cut.
Cut the Hole:
Carefully cut out the marked circle using a sharp utility knife or drum hole cutter. Make sure the edges are smooth to avoid any tearing of the drumhead.
Install the KickPort:
Insert the KickPort into the hole from the front side of the drumhead.
On the inside of the drumhead, attach the rubber trim ring (included with the KickPort) to secure the port in place. This helps seal the KickPort and enhances the bass sound.
Reinstall the Drumhead:
Reattach the resonant head with the newly installed KickPort back onto your bass drum. Ensure that the drumhead is tensioned evenly for optimal sound.
Tune the Drum:
Once the KickPort is in place and the head is reinstalled, tune the drum to your desired pitch. The KickPort should help amplify the low-end frequencies and provide a more focused sound.
